St. Anthony Wins Own Boys Golf Invite

The St. Anthony Bulldogs Boys Golf Invitational Champions were, left to right,  Luke Flaig, Luke Ludwig, Nathan Schultz, Zach wortman, Ben Strullmyer, Jayden Rios and Coach Phil Zaccari.

The St Anthony High School boys golf team started its season off by winning its own invitational Thursday.

Played at Fox Prairie Golf Course in Windsor, the Bulldogs shot a team score of 308 which was one better than a very talented Hillsboro squad.

 "The team played very solid today," said Coach Phil Zaccari. "The seniors really stepped up and paved the way. Nathan Schultz shot his career best competitive round placing second with a 73, Zach Wortman placed fifth with a 77 and then Ben Strullmyer and Luke Ludwig each fired 79's to finish our scoring.

"This is a big confidence builder win for us. I believe we'll be battling Hillsboro all year. This should be fun. A big thank you to Chris and Kim and the entire staff at Fox Prairie GC. The course was in great shape and their hospitality was wonderful."

Finishing behind St. Anthony and Hillsboro were Sullivan 321, St. Anthony No. 2 357, Pleasant Plains 363, Vandalia 379, Greenville 382, Teutopolis 405, Flora 406, Effingham 408, Robinson 410 and Hillsboro No. 2 420.

Garnering medalist honors was Hillsboro's Alex Eichoff with a 71 followed in the top 10 by Nathan Schultz (St. Anthony) 73, Caden Ellis (Sullivan) 73, Alex White (Hillsboro) 75, Zach Wortman (St. Anthony) 77, Cooper Tullis (Pleasant Plains) 79, Ben Strullmyer (Hillsboro) 79,  Luke Ludwig (St. Anthony) 79, Leighton Huber (Sullivan) 80 and Dane Huber (Hillsboro) 80.

Scoring for the eighth place Teutopolis were Carter Jansen 94, Asa Hanson 103, Andy Niebrugge 103 and Derek Ozenkoski 105.

Scoring for 10th place Effingham were Aiden Beck 91, Tate Niebrugge 93, Colby Heaton 110 and Austin Waldhoff 114.
