Bulldogs Second Day Push at State Ended by Rain; Results for Lechman, Rohlfing and Westjohn, Too

The St. Anthony Bulldogs were in eighth place after the first day of the State Class 1A Golf Tournament.  Coach Phil Zaccari said his squad was very disappointed in their play, so they were ready to play some inspired golf on Saturday.  The rainy weather is something the Bulldogs enjoy, so they were excited about the day until thunder and lightning ended the day's play after only three holes.

So, the Bulldogs finish where they were after Day 1, in eighth place with a 337 total.

Zaccari said, "We are disappointed because we were not able to finish and show that we are a much better team than we showed.  I feel bad for my seniors, Joe Powell, Dalton Anderson, Jack Niebrugge and Cole Buehnerkemper.   These guys have worked so hard to get to this point, only to have Mother Nature step in and prevent them from finishing what they started four years ago.  All of them have a tremendous work ethic that has made us better.  They have done a tremendous job representing our school and the Effingham community and we are very proud of them.  We will really miss them; they have been a great example for our underclassmen to follow.  Garrett Hixenbaugh and Connor Greene have also had a great year.  I know our seniors have helped them and they will now be asked to continue that tradition."

Meanwhile, Effingham's Anthony Lechman got in just two holes before his round was also canceled, so he finishes with his 80 from the first round and a 24th place finish.

Tuscola's Cameron Westjohn was at the 1A tournament, so his second round was also rained out.  He finishes with his first day score of 75 and an 8th place finish as well as All-State honors.  The senior is the son of Yale and Lara Westjohn and the grandson of Effingham residents George and Bev Westjohn and Larry and Sona Hines.

The weather was better for the Girls 1A Tournament, and Miranda Rohlfing took advantage of it, shooting a second day score of 80 for a two-day total of 164 and a 16th place finish at State.
