Bulldogs Win Own Boys Golf Invite, EHS Second

WINDSOR -- Effingham St. Anthony High School claimed the championship of its own boys golf invitational Monday at Fox Prairie Golf Course.
The Bulldogs won with 328 followed by Effingham 336, Champaign St. Thomas More 341, Teutopolis 343, Greenville 349, Decatur L.S.A. 351, Robinson 362, St. Anthony No. 2 365, Sullivan 370, Tuscola 382, Decatur St. Teresa 398 and Kankakee Bishop McNamara 446.
"It was a great day at Fox Prairie Golf Course in Windsor," said St. Anthony Coach Phil Zaccari. "The course was in magnificent shape and the weather was beautiful."
Neoga's Luke Baker was medalist for the event with a 36-35 -- 71. Effingham's Calloway Smith took second place with a 35-39 -- 74. St. Anthony's Jared Hutchison captured third place with a 37-38 -- 75. T-town's Christian Deters tied for fifth with a 40-36 -- 76.
"We got off to a tough start today, while the end result was not what we were hoping for," said EHS Coach Jeff Schafer. "Callaway got his season off to a really good start finishing second overall. All his hard work he has put in already paid dividends. Micheal Woltman and Jacob Sigg both played great for really their first varsity tournament.
"Congrats to Phil Zaccari and St. Anthony on winning and running a really nice tournament for the kids. Fox Prairie was in great shape. Also congrats to Luke Baker of Neoga who played a great round of golf. Overall, it was a good solid start for us and something to build on."
