Blessings in a Backpack Golf Outing

Area golfers are invited to a day of golfing, food and fun to support Blessings in a Backpack of Effingham County.  The event will be held Friday, May 15, with check-in beginning at 11:30 a.m. and a shotgun start at 1 p.m. at the Effingham Country Club.

Included in the $400 per team ticket price are 18 holes of golf, cart rental, and a barbeque dinner.  Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Hole sponsorship is $100. The registration deadline is May 1 and due to availability, is limited to the first 24 teams. People may also register for the dinner only, for $25,  RSVP by May 1.   

Last year’s event drew more than 100 participants and provided the funds to feed nearly 100 children in Unit 40 for a full school year.

A hundred percent of the proceeds are used by the local Blessings in a Backpack chapter. The program provides nutritional assistance for children who do not have access to enough food over the weekends. Local volunteers meet twice per month to pack food bags, which are then distributed to the schools so that teachers may add the bags to the student’s backpack.
