Bulldogs Fifth at Centralia Golf Invite

CENTRALIA -- Effingham St. Anthony finished fifth out of 17 teams in the Centralia Orphan Boys Golf Inivtational Saturday.

Centralia won its own meet with 215 strokes followed by O'Fallon 219, Mascoutah 220, Nashville 223, St. Anthony 225, Salem 227, Breese Mater Dei 230, Belleville West 234, Belleville East 237, Mount Vernon 239, Granite City 244, Marion 245, Herrin 246, Alton 247, Carbondale 250 and Highland 256.

Centralia's Swartzlander/Burrus captured the top spot with a 67 total. St. Anthony's Garrett Hixenbaugh and Sam Wortman finished fifth with a 34-37 -- 71 while teammates Connor Greene and Jared Hutchinson took sixth, also with a 34-37 -- 71. Nate Schmidt and Jeff Niebrugge finished with an 41-42 -- 83.

"We played pretty well again today," said Coach Phil Zaccari. "This is a better ball tournament and we turned in some pretty good scores. We still need to putt and chip better, but overall it was a good event. A good tuneup for the post-season which begins a week from Tuesday."
