The St. Anthony High School boys golf team placed an impressive fifth at the Bloomington Raider Invitational held Tuesday at Illinois State University's D.A. Weibring Course.

The Bulldogs were the low 1A school in a tournament that featured a number of excellent 2A and 3A schools. Senior Garrett Hixenbaugh tied for eighth individually while Connor Greene finished tied for 11th. Hixenbaugh had a 40-36 -- 76 while Greene had a 39-38 -- 77.

"For the most part we played decent today," said Coach Phil Zaccari. "However, we still missed a lot of putts we should have made. We were probably less than a foot from winning this event as we had so many putts burn the edge or just stop a roll away. We know we need to practice that and we will. We improved from the previous day's event so at least we appear to be on the right track."

Also scoring for the Bulldogs were Sam Wortman 43-38 -- 81 and Jared Hutchison 41-43 -- 84. Non-counting scores were Nate Schmidt 43-48 -- 91 and Jeff Niebrugge 49-45 -- 91.

Medalist for the meet was Gavin Halsey (Bloomington) with a 71. East Peoria won the tournament with a 312 followed by University High 315, Lincoln 315, Bloomington A 317,  St. Anthony 318, Peoria Notre Dame 322, Wheaton Academy 322, Mattoon 324, Macomb 325, Rockton-Honogah 327, Harlam 334, Champaign Central 337, Glenbard West 337, Mahomet-Seymour 337,  Davenport Assumption 338, Champaign St. Thomas More 340, Petersburg PORTA 347, Bartonville Limestone 355, Mount Zion 355 and Bloomington B 394.
