EIU's Cameron Berra Selected as Semifinalist

DALLAS – Eastern Illinois senior kicker Cameron Berra was one of 45 players from the FCS level named as semifinalists for the National Football Foundation William V. Campbell Trophy which recognizes the best student-athlete in the nation.  A total of 170 candidates were listed from all four levels of NCAA football and the NAIA.  Berra was one of three players listed from the Ohio Valley Conference.

To be nominated a player must be a starter or key contributor while maintaining a minimum of a 3.2 GPA.  The player must also be active in a leadership role and with community service endeavors.

Berra holds a 3.72 GPA in kinesiology with an emphasis on exercise management.  He was a first team All-OVC selection last season making 12-of-13 field goals.  Berra currently ranks as the Panthers career leader in field goal percentage and is third all-time in point after attempts.  Berra is a two-sport athlete playing baseball at EIU during the spring.  He is active in his hometown area of St. Louis in coaching and teaching youth baseball during the summer.

The Panthers return to action on Thursday, Oct. 10 at Austin Peay.  EIU was ranked No. 5 in this week’s FCS polls.  The Panthers next home game is Saturday, Oct. 19 against Southeast Missouri in the homecoming contest.  Tickets are available by calling 217-581-2106 or online at www.eiupanthertickets.com
