(Champaign, IL) -- Illinois will hit the road this week for its Big Ten opener against Nebraska. The Fighting Illini went 3-and-1 in non-conference play, capped off by last week's 50-14 win over Miami of Ohio. Saturday's game will kick off at 11 a.m. Central and air on ESPNU.
Northwestern Faces Showdown With Buckeyes
(Evanston, IL) -- ESPN's "College Gameday" will invade Evanston this Saturday ahead of Northwestern's clash with Ohio State. The Wildcats are 4-0 on the season and ranked 15th in the country while the Buckeyes sit third at 5-0. Saturday's game kicks off at 7 p.m. Central and will air on ABC.
Notre Dame Faces Arizona State This Week
(South Bend, IN) -- Notre Dame is getting set for a trip to Texas. The Fighting Irish will face Arizona State at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday night. Notre Dame dipped to 3-2 following last week's 35-21 loss to Oklahoma. The Sun Devils are 3-and-1 coming off a 62-41 pasting of USC. Saturday's game kicks off at 6:30 Central on NBC.
Irish Monitoring Government Shutdown Effect
The future of a pair of Notre Dame football games is up in the air. The recent U.S. government shutdown has put a hold on all intercollegiate athletics at the service academies The Fighting Irish are scheduled to play Air Force on October 26 and Navy on November 2. Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick says there's not much the school can do.
Service Academy Sports Halted By Government Shutdown
(Washington, DC) -- The shutdown of the U.S. government is starting to effect the sports world. The military academies have shut down their intercollegiate athletics for the time being. This Saturday's football game between Air Force and Navy has been canceled. Navy athletic director Chet Gladchuk says a final decision on the game will be made Thursday.
