Bears Trade For TE Rosario, Rams Agree To Deal With Sims

(Lake Forest, IL) -- The Bears are adding some depth at tight end. Chicago has acquired Dante Rosario from the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick in 2014. Rosario played in 13 games with San Diego last season and signed with Dallas in June. He had 10 catches for 95 yards and three touchdowns last season. Chicago waived Kyle Adams to make room. Minnesota plays at Chicago on September 15 and hosts the Bears on December 1.

Bears wide receiver Brandon Marshall appears ready to go. The veteran returned to practice Monday at Halas Hall and spoke out his recovery from arthroscopic hip surgery that took place during the offseason. Marshall expressed frustration about his progress last week, but says he's ready to play when the Bears host the Bengals this Sunday.

Rams Agree To New Deal With DE Sims

(Earth City, MO) -- The Rams are locking up defensive end Eugene Sims to a new contract.  St. Louis has agreed to terms with Sims on a three-year contract, which extends his current deal through the 2015 season. The 2010 sixth-round draft pick had a career-high 36 tackles last season and recorded his first three career sacks.

The Rams are in game-prep mode ahead of the season opener. St. Louis welcomes the Arizona Cardinals to Edward Jones Dome Sunday to kick off the 2013 campaign. The Rams beat the Cards in both meetings last season, including a 17-3 victory at home.
 

Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III Good To Play

(Ashburn, VA) --  Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has given the official word that Robert Griffin the Third will be his starting quarterback for the season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Shanahan said that surgeon Dr. James Andrews confirmed RG3 has recuperated adequately enough from offseason ACL surgery to be cleared. His eight-month recovery is viewed as astonishing because most top athletes take up to a year-and-a-half to fully recover from that kind of procedure. The "Monday Night Football" opener is set for September 9 at FedEx Field.

 

Lions Work Out DT Austin

The Detroit Lions are looking for defensive line help. The Lions worked out defensive tackle Marvin Austin Sunday. His 2011 season was cut short due to a torn pectoral muscle in the preseason. He was placed on injured reserve by the New York Giants. He registered eight tackles in as many games with New York last season. He was released by New York this past Saturday Detroit entertains Minnesota in the regular season opener for both teams Sunday at Ford Field.

 

Packers Sign Seneca Wallace

(Green Bay, WI) -- The Packers have found a quarterback to back up starter Aaron Rodgers.  Green Bay has signed Seneca Wallace, who is the only other QB on the Packers roster besides Rodgers after the team released B.J. Coleman and Vince Young. Wallace was released last week by the team that Green Bay plays in Week One, the San Francisco 49ers. The Vikings play the Packers October 27 and November 24.

 

Bengals Extend Geno Atkins

(Cincinnati, OH) -- The Cincinnati Bengals are locking up one of the best defensive linemen in the NFL to a long-term deal. Geno Atkins has agreed to a five-year, $55-million deal with the Bengals. The Bengals selected the two-time Pro Bowler out of Georgia in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

 

Winston Shines As Noles Pound Pitt

(Pittsburgh, PA) -- The world got its first glimpse of Florida State redshirt freshman quarterback Jameis Winston on Monday night. The Alabama native was 25-of-27 for 356 yards and four touchdowns as the 12th-ranked Seminoles demolished the Pittsburgh Panthers, 41-13. The game wrapped up the first weekend in college football.
