Newton Ends Season With Win Over Paris

NEWTON -- Newton High School ended the 2022 football season with a 49-15 win over Paris Friday evening.

The two teams were tied at 7-7 after the first quarter. The Eagles then held a 22-15 halftime lead then had a 27-0 second half.

The Eagles spread the scoring around as Dawson Deitz, Max Meinhart, Parker Wolf, Isaac Flowers, Meyer Tarr and Payton Harris all had rushing touchdowns. Flowers carried the ball 28 times for 125 yards.

Meinhart connected with Flowers on the lone passing touchdown.

Newton was led defensively by Austin Moore with six solo tackles and two assists, Tarr with four solo tackles and three assists and Riley Hart with three solo tackles and four assists. Braxton Griffith had six assists.

The Eagles finish the season with a 3-4 record in the Little Illini Conference for a fourth place tie and a 3-6 overall mark.
