The Effingham Hearts were eliminated from the high school football playoff hunt Friday night with a 16-7 loss to the Mattoon Green Wave.

Mattoon scored at the end of a nine-play 71-yard drive with 7:13 left in the third quarter that saw quarterback Jared Pilson score from two yards out to make the score 16-7.

The Hearts moved the ball at times in the second half, but could never punch it into the end zone.
