MATTOON -- The two teams went scoreless through the opening quarter before Mattoon broke loose and led Effingham 24-6 at halftime.

The Green Wave outscored Effingham 24-20 in the second half for a 48-26 freshman football victory Thursday evening.

Leading EHS in rushing were Kendall Ballman with 26 carries for 178 yards and two touchdowns and Landon Wolfe with five carries for 14 yards and a touchdown.

Wolfe had 63 yards passing and a touchdown. Jacob Cameron had 12 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.

Leading in defense were Ballman with eight tackles, Jason Bolin with five tackles including one sack and Noah Allen with an interception.
