Broncos Pummel Niners In Preseason Action

(Santa Clara, CA) -- Peyton Manning threw for 102 yards and a touchdown as the Broncos blanked the 49ers 34-0 Sunday at Levi's Stadium. Brock Osweiler threw for 105 yards and a TD as Denver moved to 2-0 in the preseason. The Broncos are back in action Saturday hosting the Texans.

Chiefs Lose To Panthers

(Charlotte, NC) -- The Chiefs fell to the Panthers, 28-16, in their second of four preseason games last night in Charlotte. Alex Smith was 14-for-22 with 127 yards. Travis Kelce came up with another big play scoring on a 43-yard touchdown pass from Aaron Murray. Jamaal Charles was held out for precautionary reasons due to a bruised foot. Knile Davis ran for 30 yards on nine carries in his place. The Chiefs take on the Minnesota Vikings in week three of preseason action Saturday.

Ram's Pead Likely Done For Season

(St. Louis, MO) -- The Rams will be without running back Isaiah Pead for the upcoming season. Pead suffered a torn ACL to his left knee following a kickoff return in the first quarter of Saturday's preseason contest against the Packers. The 24-year-old was involved in a non-contact situation when the injury occurred and head coach Jeff Fisher told reporters that it appears he is lost for the season.

Bears Lose TE Miller To IR

(Lake Forest, IL) -- The Bears will be without tight end Zach Miller this season. He suffered a season-ending foot injury on Thursday against the Jaguars and was placed on injured reserve on Friday.  The team filled the roster spot vacated by Miller by signing receiver Kofi Hughes.

The Bears are bringing in former Jets wide receiver Santonio Holmes. The 30-year-old has signed a one-year deal with Chicago. He made 23 catches for 456 yards and a touchdown in 11 games last year with New York after playing in just four games in the 2012 season.

Notre Dame Players Under Investigation

The University of Notre Dame announced four players under investigation for suspected academic fraud were removed from certain aspects of the football team. According to multiple media reports, wide receiver DaVaris Daniels, defensive back KeiVarae Russell, defensive lineman Ishaq Williams and linebacker Kendall Moore are the players in question. The university said there was evidence that students had submitted papers and homework that had been written for them by others. That was initially detected at the end of the summer session and referred to the athletic compliance office July 29. An immediate investigation was launched by the office of general counsel and is ongoing.
