Area Teams Compete in Olney Cross Country Invitational

OLNEY -- Several area teams competed in the boys and girls Olney Cross Country Invitationals Saturday.

Winning the boys meet was Charleston with 75 followed by Mount Vernon 85, Mattoon 121, Robinson 142, Olney 145, Teutopolis 183, Salem 198, Princeton, Ind. 280, Breese Mater Dei 298, Centraila 304, Altamont 315, Lawrenceville 345, Fairfield 360, Effingham 363, Carmi 365, Herrin 376, Hamilton County 415, Benton 433, Mount Carmel 443, Carterville 459, North Clay (Louisville) 582 and Newton 583.

Fairfield's Corbin Kakac took first place with a time of 16:34. Altamont's Andrew Sharp was second in 16:42.

In the girls meet, Mattoon was a winner with 69 followed by Breese Mater Dei 82, Carterville 109, Charleston 130, Olney 132, Effingham 196, Herrin 198, Lawrenceville 239, Mount Carmel 249, Centralia 257, Salem 260, Newton 261, Teutopolis 294, Mount Vernon 305, Hamilton County 321 and Robinson 387. Not having enough team members for a score were Fairfield, Altamont, North Clay, Benton and Carmi.

The top finisher was Mattoon's Megan Shaffer with a time of 19:14. Effingham's top finisher was Jenna Bingham in ninth place with a time of 20:49.
