St. Anthony Wins Junior High Cross Country Meets, First at Cumberland

Effingham St. Anthony captured both a boys and girls cross country meet against Mattoon Tuesday.

In the girls meet, St. Anthony tallied a perfect 15 points followed by Mattoon 55. The Bullpups took the top seven spots. Katherine Slaughter won with a time of 14:40. Also scoring were Ava Wegman in 14:41, Annika Koester 14:44, Audrey Niebrugge in 14:48 and Grace Hakman in 15:26.

In the boys meet, St. Anthony won 26-32. Mattoon took the top two spots as Jake Ghere won in 11:57 and Mitch Kremer finished second in 12:28. The Bullpups then took the next four spots as Clayton Helmink finished third in 12:52, Dillon Guy fourth in 13:16, Quinton Milleville fifth in 13:22 and Jack Hoene sixth in 13:26. Also scoring was Wade Wenthe eighth in 13:31.

St. Anthony Wins Cumberland Girls Meet

The Bullpups picked up the championship of the Cumberland Girls Meet last weekend with 36 points followed by Shelbyville 45, Jasper County 85, Robinson 95 and Cumberland 103.

Cumberland's Morgan Gerhardt captured the top spot with a time of 13:51.15 St. Anthony's Katherine Slaughter finished fourth in 14:42.37 while Annika Koester took fifth in 14:52.22. Also scoring were Ava Wegman seventh in 15:01.78, Grade Hakman eighth in 15:06.87 and Audrey Niebrugge 12th in 15:46.21.

In the boys meet, Robinson won with 46 points followed by Teutopolis 54, St. Anthony 63, Jasper County 97, cumberland 121 and Shelbyville 141.

Shelbyville's Ryan Skowronski took first in 12:25.58. St. Anthony's top runner was Clayton Helmink second in 12:37.34. T-town's top finisher was Jarrett Hartke fourth in 13:01.15. Jasper County top finisher was Kyle Kocher eighth in 13:34.06.
