ST. JOSEPH -- Effingham St. Anthony and Newton advanced in the Class 1A St. Joseph-Ogden Boys Cross Country Meet while Newton's Layna Marshall advanced in the girls race to the State Meet.

Decatur St. Teresa won the boys meet with 77 points followed by Tuscola 109, Newton 129, St. Joseph-Ogden 164, St. Anthony 182, Georgetown Notre Dame de La Salette 196, Monticello 209, Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 216, Fairfield 248, Tolono Unity 260, Urbana University 283, Robinson 295, Cerro Gordo 208, Shelbyville 378, Marshall 415, Cumberland 419, Broadlands Heritage 427, Salem 472, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 472, Fithian Oakwood 496 and Dieterich 565.

The top six teams and top 10 runners, not members of qualifying teams, advance.

Tuscola's Josiah Hortin won the meet in 15:00.00.

Finishing for Newton were Clay Bergbower 16th in 16:06.33, Luke Weber 19th in 16:17.48, Nick Shamhart 30th in 16:31.21, Brock Probst 39th in 16:51.30, Owen Mahaffey 40th in 16:51.64, Ben Street 52nd in 17:05.83 and Luis Zavala 64th in 17:16.35.

St. Anthony's Griffen Elder 11th in 15:54.59, Julius Ramos 32nd in 16:33.66, Aidan Braunecker 36th in 16:45.05, Conlan Walsh 42nd in 16:52.81,Giovanni Bucio 80th in 17:32.47, Noah Flaig 89th in 17:47.09 and Vincent Vogel 104th in 18:19.07.

Newton and St. Anthony advance to the Class 1A State Meet Saturday, November 5 with a 10 a.m. start time and awards at 11 a.m.

Cumberland finished 15th with 419 points. Competing were Kaleb Bierman 58th in 17:11.50, Riley Morgan 72nd in 17:22.15, Hank Warfel 110th in 18:27.40, Michael Beamont 112th in 18:29.84, Zack Buescher 116th in 18:41.15, Jack Pruemer 136th in 19:28.65 and Elliot Dryden 140th in 19:40.08.

Dieterich finished 20th with 565 points. Competing were Jack Bloemer 100th in 18:12.69, Trevor Crutcher 109th in 18:27.05, Kaden Einhorn 137th in 19:29.90,. Gabe Jackson 141st in 19:40.48, Cole Will 144th 19:47.85, Trevor Niemerg 145th in 19:50.94 and Tanner Niemerg 149th in 19:59.16.

Altamont's Hayden Summers finished 102nd in 18:14.32.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City's August Cosart finished 88th in 17:42.38.

North Clay's Owen Ayers fnished 35th in 16:44.15..

In the girls meet, Tolono Unity won the team championship with 40 points followed by Marshall 126, Robinson 136, Monticello 155, Shelbyville 170, Urbana University 177, Champaign St. Thomas More 189, Newton 218, Clinton 228, St. Joseph-Ogden 271, Litchfield 280, Paxton-Buckley-Loda 309, Decatur St. Teresa 342, Fairfield 344, Effingham St. Anthony 357, Salem 398, Bismarck-Henning/Rossville-Alvin 443, Paris 467, Argenta-Oreana 498, Dieterich 509 and Neoga 554.

The top six teams and top 10 runners, not members of those teams, advance.

Monticello's Mabry Bruhn won the individual championship with a time of 16:56.07.

Newton's Layna Marshall advanced by placing 15th with a time of 18:56.26 and advanced to the Class 1A State Meet Saturday, November 5 with the girls running at 9 a.m. and the awards at 11 a.m.

Also scoring for the Eagles were Alexis Hetzer 52nd in 20:44.44, Shay Bennett 56th in 20:56.02, Natalie Kistner 59th in 21:01.64, Ella Radke 71st in 21:37.36. Lily Yager 107th in 23:07.73 and Taylor Slough 124th in 24:07.76

St. Anthony finished 15th as a team. Emma Helmink placed 47th in 20:35.47, Stacie Vonderheide 53rd in 20:48.52, Ava Faber 99th in 22:47.86, Grace Niebrugge 103rd in 23:03.39, Taylor Miller 109th in 23:10.78, Maddy Hodge 113th in 23:25.61 and Rilie Willenborg 114th in 23:31.12.

Dieterich placed 20th as a team with Ella Kreke 101st in 22:55.33, Marli Michl 106th in 23:07.66, Adriana Gordon 112th in 23:18.85, Makenna French 127th in 24:45.42, Ruby Westendorf 133rd in 25:26.49, Cortney Brummer 139th in 26:32.62 and Frances Verdeyen 148th in 32:59.96.

Neoga finished 21st as a team with Lexie Fletcher 96th in 22:31.94, Addison Mast 115th in 23:36.13, Natalie Beaumont 134th in 25:35.12, Annie Clark 137th in 26:06.61 and Aundrea Nebel 142nd in 27:33.34.

North Clay's Brooke Koelm finished 86th in 22:01.59.

The Class 1A State girls meet will be held at 9 a.m. with the awards at 11 a.m. The Class 1A boys meet will be held at 10 a.m. with the awards at 11 a.m.
