Four EHS Runners Head To Sectional

TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham High School will have four runners competing at the Class 2A Decatur MacAthur Sectional this coming Saturday after they advanced from the Taylorville Regional.
Mahomet-Seymour won the boys team championship Satuday at the Taylorville Regional with 31 points followed by Charleston 70, Champaign Central 99, Mattoon 99, Taylorville 110, Champaign Centennial 122, Danville 169, Effingham 238 and Urbana 273.
Charleston's Riley McInerney won the individual title with 14:51. The top seven teams and top five individuals, not members of qualifying teams, advance to the sectional.
Individuals advancing were Carter Huff (Urbana) 35th in 17:25. The Hearts then took the next four individual spots as Leighton Lark finished 42nd in 18:08, Gary Damron took 46th in 18:23, Patrick Siner was 48th in 18:31 and Leevi Baker finished 50th in 18:41.
In the girls meet, Mattoon won the team title with 41 points followed by Champaign Central 73, Mahomet-Seymour 74, Champaign Centennial 102, Taylorville 114, Effingham 166 and Charleston 166.
Winning the individual title was Danville's Mercedes Elliot in 18:30. Elliott advances as an individual along with teammates Emily Cleveland 16th in 20:20 and Marissa McMillan 48th in 22:48. Also advancing were Urbana's Fiona Munro 19th in 20:21 and Cora McQueen 42nd in 22:07.
Effingham advanced as a team. Members are Jenna Bingham who finished in 19:37, Shayna Phillips in 21:03, Holly Moore in 22:15, Haley Fatheree in 22:18, Ashley Jamerson in 22:45, Kelly Keitel in 23:07 and Jaclyn Steppe in 24:10.
The Effingham runners compete in the Decatur MacArthur Sectional Saturday with girls running at 10 a.m. and the boys to follow at 11 a.m.
