Neoga Advances To Sectional As Team

CARLINVILLE -- Neoga High School advanced as a team from the Class 1A Carlinville Cross Country Regional Saturday in both boys and girls action.
Mount Zion won the boys team championship with 35 points followed by Shelbyville 49, Monticello 74, Neoga 125, Carlinville 167, Sullivan 172, Decatur St. Teresa 182, Clinton 198, Argenta-Oreana 214, Maroa-Forsyth 250 and Moweaqua Central A&M 291.
Jake Brown of Mount Zion won the individual championship with a time of 14:30. The Braves took the top three spots on their way to a team title.
Advancing for Neoga were Trevor Walk 16th in 16:14, Ryan Evans 19th in 16:20, Austin Hernandez 24th in 16:32, Travis Walk 29th in 16:44, Anthony Miah 37th in 17:22, Justin Deters 45th in 17:45 and Jared Cole 57th in 18:48.
Advancing individually were Jeffery Earnest (Arthur), Noah McClurg (Clinton), Tristan Smith (Argenta-Oreana), Anthony Hettinger (Arthur) and Tyler Hemmen (Argenta-Oreana).
The girls squad finished sixth to advance as a team. The top seven teams and top five runners not members of a team advance to sectional action.
Members of the Neoga team and their finish include Brittany Deters 20th in 20:09, Madison Butler 21st in 20:10, Taylor Baker 32nd in 21:50, Madi Gibson 33rd in 21:57, Erin Walk 36th in 22:09, Taylor Rich 40th in 22:54 and Kirstin Deters 48th in 24:56.
Advancing as teams were Decatur St. Teresa 16, Monticello 57, Mount Zion 90, Carlinville 109, Sullivan 137 and Neoga 142. Not advancing were Maroa-Forsyth seventh in 203 and Moweaqua Central A&M eighth in 235.
Rachel Devereux of Decatur St. Teresa took the top individudal spot in 17:08. Three teammates followed. Advancing individually were Molly Yockey (Shelbyville), Alivia Powers (Clinton), Morgan Powers (Shelbyville), Raeann Huffman (Clinton) and Hanna Miles (Clinton).
The advancing teams and individuals will head this coming Saturday to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional with girls running at 10 a.m. and boys at 11 a.m.
