Effingham Finishes Sixth, Seventh At Charleston

CHARLESTON -- Effingham finished sixth in the girls meet while the boys claimed seventh at the Charleston Cross Country Invitational Saturday.

Winning the girls meet was Mattoon with 22 points followed by Central 85, Marshall 107, Danville 117, Charleston 145, Effingham 155, Sullivan 164, Springfield Lanphier 166 and Urbana 194.

Jenna Bingham finished seventh for the Hearts with a time of 19:55. Winning the meet was Mattoon's Megan Shaffer with a time of 19:09.

Also scoring for Effingham were Shayna Phillips 17th in 21:47, Hayley Fatheree 41st in 23:29, Jaclyn Steppe 57th in 24:39 and Madi Woelfer 64th in 25:30. Non-scorers for the Hearts were Ashley Jamerson 66th in 25:44 and Tara Allred 84th in 29:32.

In the boys meet, Mahomet-Seymour won with 37 points followed by Shelbyville 79, Charleston 99, Mattoon 115, Central 119, Danville 125, Effingham 217, Sullivan 231, Springfield Lanphier 243 and Marshall 263.

Winning the meet was Charleston's Riley McInerny with a time of 15:07.

Effingham's Taylor Fatheree finished eighth in 16:28. Also scoring for the Hearts were Leighton Lark 55th in 18:45, Patrick Siner 62nd in 18:52, Gary Damron 65th in 19:02 and Kennen Mahaffey 91st in 19:59. Non-scorers were Josh Stombaugh 94th in 20:13, Adam Koester 95th in 20:14, Jake Stombaugh 107th in 20:53, Leevi Baker 117th in 21:15, Jeff Keitel 134th in 22:09 and C.J. Schmidt 148th in 23:43.
