Millikin Cross Country Awards Presented

DECATUR, Ill.—The Millikin University men’s and women’s cross country teams recently announced their award winners and letterwinners for the 2013 season.

Sarah Bradley (Decatur MacArthur) was named the Most Valuable Runner for the Big Blue women after setting a new school record in the 6K at 22:11.80.  She earned CCIW All-Conference First Team honors with a ninth place finish at the conference meet and qualified for the NCAA DIII National Championships were she finished in 51st.

Sophomore Patrick Tharp (Decatur, Mt. Zion H.S.) was named the Most Valuable Runner for the Big Blue men for the second straight season.

Freshman Jeffrey Davis (O’Fallon, Mo., Timberland H.S.) was named the Big Blue’s Newcomer of the Year.

Academic All-Conference Team

Millikin University, in conjunction with the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW), announced its Jack Swartz Award Recipients and the CCIW Academic All-Conference team for fall 2013.

Senior Chelsea Smalley (Hudson, Normal West H.S.) and sophomore Kenneth Albin (Danville, Bismarck Henning H.S.) were selected as recipients of the Jack Swartz Award. To be considered as a Swartz Award winner, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.50 grade point average and must have earn a letter in a their varsity sport.

Smalley, a Human Services major, was team captain for the Big Blue women’s soccer team in 2013. On the field she had three goals and six assists this season. Smalley excels in the classroom ranking among the top grade point averages of Millikin’s female fall sport athletes. This season marks the fourth time Smalley has earned Academic All-Conference honors.

Albin is a member of the Millikin men’s cross country team. Albin has a near perfect grade point average majoring in Finance and has the highest grade point average of Millikin’s fall male athletes. Albin maintains excellence in the classroom while competing during the entire academic year. In addition to cross country, Albin is a member of the Big Blue men’s track and field team.

Each season the CCIW selects an Academic All-Conference Team. To be recognized, the student-athlete must be enrolled as a full-time student; must have

earned a letter during the 2013 fall season; and must carry at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average.

Named to the 2013 Fall Sports CCIW Academic All-Conference was Jamie Michl, a sophomore from Newton, who competed in cross country and her major is in elementary education.
