Illini Fall To Buckeyes

(Champaign, IL) -- Tracy Abrams scored a team-best 13 points as the Fighting Illini lost 48-39 at home against the Buckeyes on Saturday. Rayvonte Rice added 11 points and five rebounds for Illinois, which was held to just 16 points in the second half after leading by three at the break. Illinois is 14-12 and 3-10 in the Big Ten. The Illini face Minnesota on the road Wednesday.

 

At Indiana

Indiana Tech fell to Cornerstone in action last Wednesday 76-57. Effingham's Jeremy Wohltman tallied five points and had one assist for Indiana Tech.

In a 67-46 loss to Davenport Saturday, Nick Lewis led Indiana Tech with 10 points. Wohltman played six minutes but did not score in the game.


Wichita State Remains Perfect

(Evansville, IN) -- Second-ranked Wichita State remains undefeated after Sunday's 84-68 win at Evansville. The Shockers are now 27-0 with a 14-0 Missouri Valley Conference record. Wichita State has just four regular-season games remaining in a quest to go 31-0 before the start of the conference tournament. Top-ranked Syracuse remains the only other Division-One team that is without a loss. The Orange required a pair of tight victories over the past week, including Saturday's 56-55 triumph over North Carolina State. 'Cuse is 25-0 with a 12-0 ACC mark, but has six regular-season games left.


Creighton Crushes Villanova

(Omaha, NE) -- Doug McDermott had a season-high 39 points to lead 17th-ranked Creighton to a 101-80 win over number-six Villanova. He passed Larry Bird for 13th place on the all-time Division One scoring list. The Bluejays are 21-4.


Nebraska Upsets Michigan State

(East Lansing, MI) -- Terran Petteway scored 23 points to lead Nebraska to a 60-51 upset of 10th-ranked Michigan State at the Breslin Center. Walter Pitchford added 18 points as the Huskers improved to 14-10. MSU fell to 21-5.   


Wildcats Fall To Gophers

(Evanston, IL) -- JerShon Cobb tallied 23 points to pace the Wildcats in a 54-48 loss to Minnesota Sunday in Evanston. Alex Olah had 10 points for Northwestern, which dropped to 12-14 and 5-8 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats are at Ohio State Wednesday.

 

SIUE Bounces Austin Peay

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Seven players scored at least eight points Saturday night, and all nine SIUE players scored at least a point, as Cougar men's basketball came away with a convincing 83-68 road win over Austin Peay in Ohio Valley Conference play at the Dunn Center.

"Our guys played fantastic basketball on both ends," SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester said. "This was a great complete game."

With the win, the Cougars improved to 11-16 overall and 7-6 in OVC play. Both win totals establish new program highs for SIUE at the Division I level. SIUE currently is second in the OVC West Division and fifth in the overall OVC standings with three games remaining.

Austin Peay fell to 11-15 overall and 5-7 in the OVC.

 

Irish Beat BC

(Chestnut Hill) -- Pat Connaughton scored 17 points to help the Fighting Irish top Boston College 73-69 last night in Chestnut Hill. Eric Atkins added 16 points for Notre Dame, which improved to 14-12 and 5-8 in the ACC. The Irish are at Miami-Florida Wednesday.

 

Badgers Beat Wolverines

(Ann Arbor, MI) -- Frank Kaminsky posted 25 points and 11 rebounds to carry number-21 Wisconsin to a 75-62 win over number-18 Michigan from Ann Arbor. Sam Dekker added 15 points and nine boards for the Badgers, who moved to 21-5 and 8-5 in the Big Ten.  Caris LeVert scored 25 points with six rebounds for the Wolverines, who dropped to 18-7 and 10-3 in the conference after trailing 34-19 at the half. Nik Stauskas chipped in with 11 points in the loss.
