Dieterich Bounces CHBC, Girls Roundup

BEECHER CITY -- Dieterich High School bounced Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 68-37 in girls basketball competition Saturday. It was CHBC's Senior Night.

The Movin' Maroons took a 19-7 opening quarter lead and led 38-14 at halftime. Mallorie Vahling led the winners with 25 points while Courtney Flach tallied 20, Rachel Schmidt and Kallee Rae Heuerman scored 10 each.

CHBC was led by Herrmann with 13 and J. Morrison with 10.

At Newton

In a Friday evening contest, Newton blasted  Cumberland 52-18 in a Little Illini Conference contest and during Senior Night festivities.

Newton led 25-8 at halftime and never looked back. Cartright tallied 12, Macy Probst 10 and Hartirch 10 for the winners who improve to 7-4 in the conference, 12-13 overall.

Cumberland was led by Poe with 12.

Teutopolis downed Paris 56-21 in action Saturday. The Wooden Shoes led 16-7 after one quarter and 27-9 at halftime.

Cierra Thompson led the winners with 12 points while Hardiek scored 10. Thompson hit two three-pointers in the contest.

FRESHMAN APOLLO CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Teutopolis captured the championship of the Apollo Conference Girls Freshman Basketball Tournament Saturday and the Wooden Shoes are not even a member of the conference. T-town was filling in for Paris.

T-town defeated Salem 41-30 to win the championship. The score was tied at 16-16 at halftime then T-town had a 13-5 third quarter run.

Reagan Drees tallied 16 and Jamie Sandschafer 11 for the winners. T-town finished the season at 21-0.

Effingham captured fifth place with a 43-31 win over Mount Zion. Charleston took third place by downing Mattoon 48-22.
