No. 3 Wildcats Hold Off Oregon

(Tucson, AZ) -- Nick Johnson made five free throws in the final minute as third-ranked Arizona held on to beat Oregon 67-65 at McKale Center. Johnson ended with 18 points for the Wildcats, who bounced back from their first loss of the season at Cal on Saturday and improved to 22-1 and 9-1 in Pac-12 play. The 'Cats host Oregon State Sunday.


Cincinnati Holds Off UConn

(Cincinnati, OH) -- Sean Kilpatrick poured in 26 points with 12 rebounds as number-seven Cincinnati held off UConn, 63-58, at Fifth Third Arena Thursday.  The Bearcats have won 15 in-a-row to improve to 22-2 overall and 11-10 in the AAC. Cincinnati is at SMU Saturday.


Penn State Falls At No. 8 Michigan State

(East Lansing, MI) -- Tim Frazier dropped in a game-high 22 points but Penn State still lost 82-67 at eighth-ranked Michigan State. D.J. Newbill chipped in with 17 points for the Nittany Lions, who fell to 12-11 on the year and 3-7 in Big Ten play. Penn State hosts Illinois on Sunday.

 

SIU Outlasts Southeast Missouri

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE drained 13 three-pointers Thursday and five SIUE players scored in double figures as SIUE outlasted Southeast Missouri 93-88 in overtime in Ohio Valley Conference basketball at Vadalabene Center.

"This is a great win for us," SIUE Head Coach Lennox Forrester said. "Any time you can get a win against a team as dangerous and talented as Southeast, that's huge. This is a big win our program and athletic department."

The win is the fifth consecutive home win for the Cougars, who improved to 5-5 in OVC play and 9-14 overall. SIUE is now 4-1 in OVC play at the Vadalabene Center. Southeast Missouri fell to 3-7 in the OVC and 12-12 overall.

Trailing 77-74 and coming out of a timeout with 41 seconds left in regulation, SIUE ran a play for Kris Davis, who curled off a screen. Donivine Stewart found Davis on the left wing. Davis caught the pass and nailed a three-pointer to tie the score at 77.

Southeast Missouri's Tyler Stone got to the basket and hit a layup to put the Redhawks up 79-77 with 12 seconds left. After an SIUE timeout, Stewart found Keaton Jackson on the right baseline. Jackson connected on a layup with 0.6 seconds left to tie the score at 79 and send the game into overtime.

 
 

Illini At Penn State Sunday

(University Park, PA) -- The Illinois Fighting Illini are on the road in University Park to play the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sunday. Tip off on the Big Ten Network is at 3:15 p.m. The Illini are 13-10 and 2-8 in the Big Ten. The Nittany Lions are 12-11 and 3-7 in conference play.


Wildcats Host Huskers

(Evanston, IL) -- The Nebraska Cornhuskers are in town at Welsh-Ryan Arena to play the Northwestern Wildcats. Tip Saturday is scheduled for noon on ESPNU.  The Wildcats are 12-11 and 5-5 in the Big Ten. The Huskers are 11-10 with a 3-6 Big Ten record.
