Action Underway at LIC Boys Tournament

Four games were played Friday on the opening night of the Little Illini Conference boys basketball tournament.

The seeds held Friday, as eighth-seeded Oblong won over ninth-seeded Red Hill 69-46, fifth-seeded Flora defeated 12th-seeded Cumberland 65-44, sixth-seeded Robinson won over Hutsonville-Palestine 53-25, and seventh-seeded Lawrenceville defeated 10th-seeded Edwards County 72-49.

In competition Saturday, Newton edged Oblong 61-60. Casey-Westfield won over Flora 63-55. Olney then downed Robinson 50-35 and seventh-seeded Lawrenceville upset No. 2 Marshall 58-51.

Consolation bracket play tonight will feature Hutsonville/Palestine at Flora, Edwards County (Albion) at Oblong, Red Hill (Bridgeport) at Marshall and Cumberland at Robinson. All games begin at 7 p.m.

The winner bracket will be played Tuesday as Newton takes on Casey-Westfield at 6 p.m. at Olney High School while Olney faces Lawrenceville at 7:30 p.m.
