Effingham claimed the freshman boys basketball victory over Mattoon Monday evening, 74-39.
The Hearts held a 43-26 halftime lead. Three players hit double figures. Grant Wolfe led with 21 points while Jacob Donaldson added 16 and Brent Beals chipped in with 14.
In the sophomore game, Mattoon claimed a 45-42 win. Effingham took a 26-21 halftime lead but Mattoon came roaring out after halftime with a 19-9 run to lead 40-35 going into the final period. EHS outscored the Green Wave 7-5 but couldn't make up that third quarter difference.
Michael Woltman tallied 11 and Brady Jackson 10 for the Hearts.
