T-town Wins, CHBC Loses As Highland Girls Tourney Gets Underway

HIGHLAND -- Teutopolis High School bounced Okawville 38-15 in opening round play at the 28th Annual Highland Girls Basketball Tournament Saturday.

The Wooden Shoes trailed Okawville 11-10 after the opening quarter but came back to lead 20-13 at halftime. The Wooden Shoes then held Okawville scoreless in the third quarter while pushing their lead to 32-13.

Danielle Repking led the way for the Shoes with eight points while Madeline Hartke added seven. T-town will be back in action Tuesday against Highland at 7 p.m.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City dropped the first game of the tournament to always tough Breese Central 67-15. Central ran off to a 16-4 opening quarter lead and led 32-6 at halftime.

Kendra Wilken led the way for Central with 14 points while Alexis Strieker added 11 and Torre Kormann 11. Central will face Salem tonight at 7.

CHBC was led by Jensyn Morrison with eight points. CHBC will be back in action tonight in a 4 p.m. contest against Belleville Althoff.

The Teutopolis freshman/sophomore girls squad defeated Paris 66-29 in action Saturday. In the second contest, the game was only two 10 minute quarters and T-town won 31-11.

In the first game, Jamie Sandschafer led T-town with 20 points while Lexie Kaufman and Shelby Thompson pitched in with 11 points each.
