St. Anthony, Effingham Claim Eighth-Grade Wins, Altamont Nab Two Wins

Effingham played host to Taylorville and picked up the eighth-grade win but suffered a loss in seventh-grade play Monday evening in junior high boys basketball.

The Mustangs suffered their first defeat of the season in seventh-grade play, 55-39. Effingham played well in the first quarter, leading 16-14 but Taylorville came back to outscore the Mustangs 17-9 in the second period. Effingham connected on the first two baskets of the second half to cut the lead to two but Taylorville hit three consecutive three-pointers and finished the quarter with a 14 point lead. Taylorville ended hitting seven three-pointers in the contest.

Effingham was led by Landon Wolfe with 19 and Zach Lee with 11. The Mustangs are now 12-1.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham picked up a 47-34 win to improve to 11-2 on the season.

Hull scored 15 and Sandifer 11. Hull led in rebounds with six while Levitt and Hill pulled down five each. Sandifer and Levitt led the team in steals with three each.

At Dieterich

St. Anthony picked up two wins over Dieterich. In seventh-grade action, St. Anthony won 56-21.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Anthony won 55-39. St. Anthony was led by Alex Deters with 17, Alex Beesley with 12, Jack Nuxoll with 10 and Greg Utz with 10. St. Anthony is now 10-4.

Dieterich was led by Higgs with 17 and Radloff with 11.

At Effingham

Effingham Sacred Heart fell to Altamont Lutheran in both contests. Altamont Lutheran won the seventh-grade game 38-20. Altamont Lutheran held a 21-5 halftime lead.

The winners were led by Budde with 12. W. Swingler led the Shamrocks with eight.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont Lutheran claimed a 34-26 win. Whitt tallied 20 for the winners. C. Helmink led Sacred Heart with 14.

In seventh-grade B play, Charleston was a 37-26 winner. Lucas Drees scored eight for T-town.

Altamont picked up two victories over Beecher City. Altamont claimed the seventh-grade game 39-26. Hemken scored 12 to lead the winners, six in the second quarter and six in the fourth quarter.

Beecher City was led by Stewart with 12 points.

In eighth-grade action, Altamont won 70-14. Davis scored 23, Stevenson 18 and Pemberton 12. Beecher City was led by Kollman with six.
