Effingham St. Anthony and Teutopolis split victories in junoir high boys basketball competition Thursday evening.

St. Anthony was a 45-22 winner in seventh-grade play. The Bullpups held a 21-13 halftime lead and outscored T-town 24-9 in the second half. Blanchette tallied 16 and Brandenburger 12 for the winners. T-town was led by Dawson Smith with eight.

In eighth-grade play, T-town edged the Bullpups 43-41. T-town held a 24-19 halftime lead and outscored St. Anthony 12-6 in the third quarter. St. Anthony came back with a 16-7 final period run to just fall short.

Collin Funneman and Lee Hardiek tallied 12 points each for the winners while Eric Kremer scored 11. Utz led St. Anthony with 11.

At Effingham

Effingham claimed a seventh-grade victory over Olney, 47-39. The Mustangs held a 28-11 halftime lead then had a 12-8 third quarter run and held off a final period challenge.

Bushur tallied 17 and Wolfe 15 for the winners. Bushur and Lee led in reobunding with six each. Bushur had four steals.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham was a 45-24 winner to improve to 10-1 on the season. Hull tallied 18 and Sandifer 15 for the Mustangs. Sandifer led in steals with six. Spencer led in rebounds with four.

At Strasburg

Neoga and host Stewardson-Strasburg split wins Thursday evening. Neoga claimed the seventh-grade contest 45-38 by taking a 21-18 halftime lead then outscoring Stew-Stras 12-9 in the third period.

Peters tallied 23 for the winners. Burton led Stew-Stras with 10.

In eighth-grade action, Stew-Stras edged Neoga 43-41. Stew-Stras led 22-19 at halftime. Neoga tied the score at 31-31 in the third quarter. The Stars then had a 12-10 final period run.

Kessler led the winners with 12 points. Hill led Neoga with 10. Stew-Stras improves to 7-0 in the National Trail Conference, 10-2 overall.

Newton St. Thomas claimed two victories over Beecher City. St. Thomas won the seventh-grade contest 36-31. Zumbahlen and Moore tallied 12 for the winners. Beecher City was led by Mason Stewart with 19.

In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas won 34-17. Ochs and Rieman scored nine each for the winners. Kaleb Doty led Beecher City with 10.
