Altamont Moves Into St. Elmo Tournament Title Game

Altamont claimed a 76-36 victory over Okaw Valley to move into the championship game of the 54th Annual  St. Elmo Holiday Boys Basketball Tournament Thursday evening.

The Indians stepped out to an 18-7 first quarter lead on Okaw Valley. Six players scored in the frame for the Indians. Altamont pushed its lead to 33-20 at halftime and led 49-27 going into the final quarter.

Ziegler tallied 23 points to lead the way, hitting 10 field goals, including a three-pointer, and two of three at the line. Also in double figures were Wolff with 15 and Jackman with 10.

Altamont will now face either St. Elmo/Brownstown or Beecher City Saturday at 8 p.m. for the title. Those two teams play tonight at 7:45.

In the opening game, Cowden-Herrick defeated South Central 59-48. The Hornets took a 29-22 halftime lead then outscored the Cougars 30-26 in the second half.

Barnes tallied 17 while Blackerby added 15, Burrus 11 and Evans 10 for the winners. Harmeier led South Central with 17.

South Central will play for seventh place Saturday at 3:30 p.m. while Cowden-Herrick advances to the consolation championship at 5 p.m.
