Effingham Junior High School claimed two victories over Jasper County in boys basketball action Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest 44-15, leaping out to a 24-9 first half lead. Landon Wolfe tallied 23 for the winners. Zach Lee scored eight points and pulled down nine rebounds. The Mustangs are now 10-0 on the season.

In eighth-grade action, Effingham won 44-19. The Mustangs were led by Hull with 15 points and six rebounds. Sandifer added nine points and six steals and Robinson had four rebounds.

Effingham now sports a 9-1 record.

At St. Anthony

St. Anthony claimed two victories over Stewardson-Strasburg in action Monday evening. The Bullpups trounced Stew-Stras 64-9 in seventh-grade play.

Three players hit double figures for St. Anthony, Blanchette with 14, Ludwig with 10 and Strullmyer with 10. Plus five other players scored in the contest. Miller led Stew-Stras with five points. St. Anthony is now 3-10.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony won 46-32 with a 20-10 halftime lead. Deters led the winners with 17 points while Beesley added 12 and Nuxoll 10. Kessler led Stew-Stras with 11 and Hansen with 10. St. Anthony is now 8-2 on the season.

At Newton

Effingham Sacred Heart fell twice to Newton St. Thomas. St. Thomas was a 25-16 winner in seventh-grade action.

Ochs tallied nine for the winners. The Shamrocks were led by Conkling with six points.

In eighth-grade action, St. Thomas was a 37-21 winner with a 22-14 halftime lead. Rieman tallied 10 points for St. Thomas. Sacred Heart was led by Rozene with nine points.

At Casey

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Casey-Westfield. T-town was a 45-29 winner in the seventh-grade contest.

T-town held a one-point lead at halftime then had a 17-4 third quarter run to put the game away. Dawson Smith led T-town with 20 points.

In eighth-grade play, T-town claimed a 27-15 win. Lee Hardiek tallied nine for the winners while Jack Goeckner added eight.
