Sharpshooters, Windsor Advance to Seventh-Grade NTC Title Game

STRASBURG -- Sigel  St. Michael and Windsor advanced to the championship game of the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament after victories Wednesday evening.

In the opening game, St. Michael won over St. Elmo/Brownstown 26-17. St. Michael broke a 4-4 first quarter tie to lead 10-9 at halftime then had a 10-2 third period run to put the game away.

Wolke led the winners with 12 points. St. Elmo/Brownstown was led by Karnes with eight.

In the other winner bracket contest, Windsor edged Cowden-Herrick 32-30 in overtime. C-H took a 10-9 opening quarter lead but Windsor came back to tie the score at halftime 16-16. Windsor edged ahead 24-23 going into the final period and Cowden-Herrick knotted the score at 28-28 sending the game into overtime.

Windsor then had a 4-2 overtime run to pull out the victory. Greuel and Beck had nine points each. Cowden-Herrick was led by Miller with eight.

In consolation bracket action, Altamont defeated Neoga 34-15. Altamont led 7-2 after the opening quarter then was consistent, scoring nine points each over the next three quarters.

Biggs led the winners iwth 11 points. Keller led Neoga with nine.

Stewardson-Strasburg then handed Dieterich a 28-24 loss. Stew-Stras led 18-6 at halftime but Dieterich came roaring back with a 14-2 final period run but fell short.

A. Burton led the winners with 22 points. E. Bohnhoff led Dieterich with nine.

Sigel Michael takes on Windsor at 7:30 p.m. today for the championship while St. Elmo/Brwonstown and Cowden-Herrick meet for third place at 6:15 in Gym 1. The consolation championship features Altamont against Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:15 p.m. in Gym 2
