The Effingham Hearts exploded out of the gate and never looked back in posting a 65-29 victory over the Charleston Trojans Friday night.  The game, heard on 979XFM and www.979xfm.com, was the home and Apollo Conference opener for the Hearts.

Effingham led 18-2 after one quarter, had a 37-11 lead at the half and held a 51-19 advantage after three quarters.

The Hearts shot 52% from the field, 61% in the first half, and hit on 25 of 48 shots for the game. Effingham also made 13 of 19 foul shots, committed just 12 turnovers, grabbed 29 rebounds and made two of three three-point shots.

Charleston made just 24% of its shots, hitting 11 of 46 attempts.  23 turnovers also plagued the Trojans.

A moment of silence was held for Brittany Baker, the EHS senior who was fatally injured in a collision on her way to school Thursday morning.  Several students wore either lime green or orange in Brittany's memory. A plaque presentation also took place last night honoring Hearts Coach Ron Reed on his 400th career victory, which came during last week's St. Anthony Thanksgiving Tournament.
