Eighth-Grade Girls Regional Roundup -- Dec. 2

Eighth-grade girls basketball regionals got underway Monday evening around the area. Here are the results:

Class 8-4A Charleston Regional

Effingham picked up a first round victory and advances. The Mustangs took a 7-0 first quarter lead and went on to hold off Tolono Unity 28-22.

Myers tallied nine points while Ramos added seven for the winners who improve to 19-2 on the season.

In the opening contest, Mattoon defeated Champaign Edison 29-25.

The Mustangs are back in action tonight taking on Charleston at 7:15 p.m. The opening game features Mattoon against Champaign Jefferson at 6.

Class 8-3A Altamont Regional

Teutopolis and Cumberland claimed opening round victories in this regional.

Cumberland handed Marshall a 30-25 loss in the opening game.

T-town then defeated Casey-Westfield 31-21. The Wooden Booties took a 19-12 opening half lead then came out with a 10-4 run in the third quarter.

Marianna Hemmen scored 15 and Macy Michels 11 for the winners. T-town improves to 10-12 and advances to face Paris Mayo tonight at 7:30.

At Altamont

Class 8-2A Nokomis Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor claimed a 25-10 win over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick. SS/W led 12-7 at halftime then had a 13-3 second half run.

Schlechte scored nine and Everett eight for the winners. BCCH was led by Oldham with five. SS/W improves to 4-17 on the season.

Stew-Stras/Windsor will now face Nokomis tonight at 6 followed by Assumption Central A&M against Findlay Okaw Valley at 7:15.

Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional

Cisne won the opening game in this regional over Martinsville 32-19. Cisne will now face host Sigel St. Michael at 6 p.m. today.

Effingham Sacred Heart takes on Dieterich at 7:30 p.m. in the second game.

Class 8-3A Edwards County (Albion) Regional

Robinson Nuttall picked up a first round victory in this regional. Robinson Nuttall defeated Red Hill (Bridgeport) 30-14.

Robinson Nuttall advances to face Jasper County at 6 p.m. today followed by Lawrenceville Parkview against Edwards County at 7:30.
