EIU Accepting Items For Tornado Victims at Women's BB Game

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois Athletics will kick off the season of giving at its home women’s basketball game on Thursday night at 7 p.m. against Loyola-Chicago.  The Panthers will be accepting toiletry items to donate to the communities of Washington and Gifford, Illinois both of which were struck by tornadoes on Sunday.  Donations will be accepted at both the Thursday women’s basketball game and the men’s home basketball game on Saturday night at 7 p.m. against Roosevelt University.

The donation drive is part of the Eastern Illinois campus wide initiative to collect items to help people in both of those Illinois communities.  In addition to donating items at the upcoming EIU basketball games, community members may drop off donations at the EIU MLK Student Union on Thursday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Student Community Service Van located under the walkway.  Donations will also be accepted at campus dining centers through the end of the week.

Eastern Illinois Athletics will also once again be involved with the Toys for Tots annual drive.  Fans can donate a new toy at the remaining fall basketball games with all toys being donated to area children in need.  Toys can be donated starting this Thursday at the women’s game against Loyola on 7 p.m. and the women’s game against Western Illinois on Monday, Nov. 25 against Western Illinois at 12 p.m. (Noon).  Three opportunities will be available at men’s games starting this Saturday at 7 p.m. against Roosevelt University, Wednesday Nov. 27 against IPFW at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 7 against Indiana State at 2 p.m.
