Tons of Boys, Girls Basketball Tournaments Scheduled In Area This Week

If you're a basketball fan then you'll be in basketball heaven this week as tons of area boys and girls tournaments will be contested.

Effingham St. Anthony plays host to a boys turkey tournament that begins tonight and finishes out Saturday. Teams entered include Effingham, Robinson, Mount Zion, Charleston, Breese Central, Mattoon and Belleville Althoff.

Cumberland High School hosts a boys tournament with Neoga, Dieterich, Newton, Chrisman, Palestine/Hutsonville, Martinsville and Oblong. The tournament opens with four games tonight and will finish out Saturday with the championship at 8 p.m.

The Mulberry Grove boys Tournament will open tonight with three games on tap. Cowden-Herrick faces Ramsey at 5:15 p.m. Also enterd are Odin, Patoka, Sandoval and host Mulberry Grove. The round robin tournament ends Saturday.

Teutopolis wll compete in the Capital Classic that takes place in Red Hill (Bridgeport) and Lawrenceville. The Shoes open play Friday against Fairfield at 12:30 p.m. at Red Hill and at 6 p.m. against Olney. The tourney ends Saturday.

In girls action, the National Trail Conference Tournament opens play Tuesday at Beecher City High School. The NTC teams competing include Effingham St. Anthony, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, Dieterich, Altamont, South Central, Neoga and Brownstown/St. Elmo. The tourney continues Friday and ends Saturday with the title contest scheduled for 1 p.m.

The Bob Kerans Thanksgiving Tournament at Newton Higih School also begins Tuesday with Effingham taking on Flora at 6 p.m. In the second contest, Newton faces Cumberland at 7:30.

The tournament field also includes Mount Zion and Flora. The round robin event continues Wednesday,  Friday and ends Saturday.

Teutopolis is competing in the Salem Tournament which began during the past weekend and the Wooden Shoes went 3-0 in pool play. T-town will now be playing Saturday at noon against Salem while Bethalto Civic Memorial will take on Highland at 1:30 p.m. in the winner bracket. In the consolation bracket, Olney faces Carlyle at 9 a.m. while Belleville East squares off against Centralia at 10:30 a.m.

In the winner bracket, the winners advance to the championship at 8:30 p.m. while the losers square off for third place at 7 p.m. In the consolation bracket, the winners advance to meet for the consy title at 5:30 p.m. while the losers meet for seventh place at 4 p.m.
