T-town Picks Up Two More Wins at Salem Girls Tourney

Teutopolis High School finished 3-0 in pool play at the Salem Thanksgiving Girls Basketball Tournament during weekend action.

In Saturday play, T-town defeated Highland 42-32. The Wooden Shoes took a 26-21 halftime lead and held a five-point lead going into the final period then had an 11-6 run, knocking down five free throws.

M. Hartke tallied 16 for the winners while Thompson chipped in with nine. Hartke also led in rebounds with five.

In the second game, T-town was a 53-28 winner over Olney. The Shoes stepped out to a 23-11 first half lead and never looked back. Hartke scored 17 for the winners while Schumacher added nine and led in rebounds with seven.

In other games, Olney defeated Centralia 58-44, Salem won over Belleville East 53-48 in overtime, Bethalto Civic Memorial defeated Carlyle 77-42, Highland downed Centralia 54-41, Belleville East beat Carlyle 44-42 and Civic Memorial beat Salem 60-37.

The tournament will conclude this coming Saturday with T-town meeting Salem at noon followed by Bethalto Civic Memorial facing Highland at 1:30 p.m. in winner bracket play. The winners advance for the championship at 8:30 p.m. while the losers square off for third place at 7 p.m.

In the consolation bracket, Olney takes on Carlyle at 9 a.m. followed by Belleville East meeting Centralia at 10:30 a.m. The winners meet for the consy title at 6:30 p.m. while the losers face off for seventh place at 4.

At Effingham

Teutopolis claimed a 31-16 freshman/sophomore win over Effingham St. Anthony.

T-town led 21-8 at halftime and never looked back. Molly Smith scored 12 points for the winners including seven in the second quarter run. St. Anthony was led by Emily McDevitt with five.
