Effingham Junior High School claimed two season opening victories in boys basketball action Monday evening.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade contest over visiting Mount Vernon 32-24. Effingham was led by Landon Wolfe and Zach Lee with 14 and 11 points respectively.

In eighth-grade play, Effingham claimed a 38-28 victory. Hull tallied 20 points, had seven rebounds and eight steals for the Mustangs. Sandifer added eight points and five steals.

Dieterich Eighth-Grade Tournament

Sigel St. Michael and Dieterich claimed opening round victories in the Dieterich Eighth-Grade Tournament Monday evening.

St. Michael defeated Newton St. Thomas 47-22. In the second contest, Dieterich bounced Hutsonville 58-9.
