Plans are coming together for the 1st Annual Effingham/Teutopolis Christmas Tournament.

The tournament is slated for a two-day run this year, Friday and Saturday, December 27-28. Games will be played at both J.H. Griffin Gym in Teutopolis and at Effingham High School gym.

The idea of a Christmas tournament involving Effingham and Teutopolis has been discussed in recent years and is finally coming to fruition.  Effingham will end a brief stay at the Centralia Tournament and Teutopolis is leaving the Pinckneyville Tourney.

Mike Wilson is part of an eight-person committee working on the tournament.  He said the six teams in the inaugural tourney field will be Effingham, Teutopolis, Mattoon, Charleston, Mt. Vernon and Chicago Robeson.  The tournament will be a pool play affair.  Wilson said games will be played in both gyms on Friday and during the day Saturday with the finals at the Effingham gym on Saturday night.

Wilson said the organizers are planning on enlisting the help of the Effingham Sportsbackers and the Teutopolis Booster Club and other volunteers to help operate the tournament.

Four primary sponsors have been secured to help with costs of the tournament.  They are Midland States Bank, Servpro, Taylor Law Office and Linders Limited (McDonald's).
