Altamont, Dieterich Advance In NTC Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tourney

Altamont and Dieterich captured opening round victories in the National Trail Conference Eighth-Grade Girls Basketball Tournament Wednesday evening.
In the opener, Altamont downed Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 35-11. Altamont held a 23-10 halftime lead. S. Stone tallied 14 for the winners.
Altamont now takes on Dieterich at 6:45 p.m. Friday in winner bracket action.
In the second contest, Dieterich edged Effingham Sacred Heart 29-28. Dieterich led 18-12 at halftime and 27-18 going into the final quarter. The Shamrocks came roaring back with a 10-2 final period run only to fall short.
Hailey Deain led Dieterich with 13 points. Madison McWhorter led Sacred Heart with eight.
Tonight's games feature Brownstown/St. Ellmo taking on Neoga at 6:45 p.m. and BCCH against Sacred Heart in consolation bracket play at 8 p.m.

Jasper County defeated Lawrenceville 28-18 in the LEIC Seventh-Grade Tournament Wednesday evening.
Jasper County held a 17-14 first half lead then outscored Lawrenceville 11-4 in the second half. Alison Russell tallied 11 points for the winners.
