TAYLORVILLE -- Effingham and Taylorville split victories in junior high girls basketball competition Thursday.

The Mustangs won the seventh-grade game 35-30. Two players hit double digits, Fearday with 18 and Weis with 10. The Mustangs are 3-0.

In eighth-grade play, Taylorville was a 40-25 winner. Myers tallied six for Effingham. The Mustangs fall to 2-1.

At Charleston

Charleston played host to St. Anthony and handed the Bullpups two losses. Charleston won the seventh-grade game 40-24. Sarah Flight had 12 and Elizabeth Buescher 10 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Clare McHugh with 17. The Bullpups drop to 2-2.

In eighth-grade action, Charleston won 34-12. Swango scored 12 for the winners. St. Anthony was led by Mary Ann Saba with four. The Bullpups drop to 1-3.

Sigel St. Michael picked up two victories over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick Thursday.

St. Michael was a 35-16 winner in seventh-grade play. S. Bueker led the winners with 20 points. Tabitha Endsley led BCCH (4-2) with eight.

In the eighth-grade contest, St. Michael claimed a 46-10 win. Bueker tallied 21. Taylor Oldham led BCCH (1-4) with six.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor and Dieterich were both winners. Stew-Stras/Windsor claimed the seventh-grade contest 41-9. The winners improve to 5-0 in the National Trail Conference, 6-0 overall. K. Davis tallied 18. Andrea Bierman led Dieterich with seven.

In the eighth-grade game, Dieterich won 27-13. Anna Shadle led the way with 17 points. Stew-Stras/Windsor drops to 0-5 in the NTC, 0-6 overall.

Jasper County picked up two wins over Red Hill (Bridgeport). Jasper County won the seventh-grade contest 20-17. Mallory Bergbower had seven points.

In the eighth-grade game, Jasper County won 39-6 by taking a 16-2 opening quarter lead. Abby Frohning tallied 18 for the winners.
