Teutopolis Wins, Cumberland Loses In 2A Regionals

FAIRFIELD -- Second-seeded Teutopolis handed Flora a 55-33 loss in the Class 2A Fairfield Boys Basketball Regional Wednesday evening.

Four players scored as the Wooden Shoes ran out to a 17-5 opening quarter lead on the Wolves. Gavin Addis and Mick Niebrugge put in three baskets for six points each while Henry Thompson added a three-pointer.

The lead stood at 23-16 at halftime. Thompson added another three-pointer and Addis put in five more points.

Flora came back with a 12-8 third period but trailed T-town 41-28 heading into the final quarter. The Shoes scored only eight points as Niebrugge and Jason Kreke hit a basket each and Thompson added two free throws.

But the Shoes finished strong with a 15-5 final period. Niebrugge added on eight points and finished withi 16 to lead the Shoes on seven baskets and two of two at the line. Also in double figures was Addis with 11.

Flora was led by Helm with 11 points.

Fairfield was a 65-62 winner over Marshall in the second game of the evening.

Teutopolis and Fairfield will now meet Friday for the regional championship at 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the Tolono Unity Sectional Tuesday and take on the winner of the Westville Regional, either Tolono Unity or Monticello.

Class 2A Paris Regional

Cumberland saw its season come to a close in the Class 2A Paris Regional Wednesday evening.

The Pirates took on host Paris and fell, 55-35.

Five players scored in the opening quarter as the Tigers ran out to a 19-7 opening quarter lead.

Four players scored for the Pirates.

In the second quarter, Cumberland played within a point as Paris had a 13-12 edge. The Tigers led 32-19 at halftime.

Paris then had a 23-16 second half run for the victory.

Rigdon led Paris with 18 points while Crippes added 10.

Cumberland was led by Cameron Roedl with 14 points on six field goals, two from three-point range.

In the opening game of the evening, Lawrenceville was a 79-31 winner over Hutsonville/Palestine/Oblong.

Lawrenceville and Paris will meet at 7 p.m. Friday for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Tolono Unity Sectional against either Warrensburg-Latham or St. Joseph-Ogden.
