Dieterich, North Clay Win In Regional, Neoga Falls

FARINA -- Dieterich and North Clay (Louisville) advanced to the championship game of the Class 1A South Central Regional with a win each Wednesday evening.

The Maroons opened with a 60-30 victory over host South Central. Dieterich edged out to a 9-5 opening quarter lead and held a 20-13 halftime tally.

Tanner Will scored four in the opening quarter while Lucas Westendorf scored four in the second period. Landen Keck added a three-pointer in that second period.

After a slow first half in the scoring department, Dieterich had an 11-10 third quarter as Westendorf and Jaxon Funneman hit two baskets each while Brock Niemerg put in a three-pointer.

South Central kept close with two baskets by Seth Bergmann.

But the Maroons put the game totally away with a 29-7 final quarter. Will led the way from the free throw line as he connected on nine of 10. Westendorf hit a three-pointer and two baskets for seven while Keck added a basket and three free throws for five. Jay Desai connected from beyond the arc.

Dieterich (19-13) was led by three players in double figures while a total of eight scored in the contest. Westendorf led the way with seven field goals, one a three-pointer, for 15. Will chipped in with 13 and Keck added 11.

South Central was led by Bergmann with five field goals and one free throw for 11.

North Clay was a winner over Altamont in the second game of the evening by a 67-58 count.

Altamont held a 15-12 opening quarter lead as Kade Milleville and Parker Bell connected on a regular basket and a three-pointer for five each while Ben Roedl added three.

Mason Byers kept North Clay in the contest by scoring on three baskets and a free throw for seven.

The Cardinals came back with a 12-7 second period to move into a 24-22 halftime lead. Cody Zimdars hit a three and a regular basket for five while Carder Walden put in four points.

Cooper McManaway tried to keep the Indians in the contest with a three.

North Clay kept the momentum, rolling to a 17-13 third period as Byers went on the offense again with eight points and Walden added five. 

Roedl put in eight of his team's points and Zaine MIller hit a three but the Indians trailed 41-35.

In the final period, it was a walk to the free throw line as Zimdars hit a basket and was eight of 11 at the line while Kade Atwood put in four of six, Byers two baskets and three of three and Walden a basket and two of three in the 26-23 run and the victory.

North Clay finished by hitting 21 of 29 at the line. Byers connected on 10 field goals and was four of five at the line to lead the team with 24 points. Zimdars hit five field goals, one a three-pointer, and was 10 of 13 at the line for 21 points. Also in double figures was Walden with 13.

Altamont was led by Roedl with six field goals and seven of 10 at the line for 19 while Bell added 13 and Miller finished with nine. The Indians ended with seven three-pointers and were seven of 11 at the line.

Dieterich and North Clay will now meet for the regional championship Friday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Sectional to take on the winner of the Chrisman Regional, either Casey-Westfield or Tuscola.

Class 1A Chrisman Regional

Neoga saw its season come to a close at the Class 1A Chrisman Regional Wednesday evening.

Casey-Westfield held Neoga scoreless in the opening quarter while taking a 13-0 lead. The Warriors held only a 22-15 halftime tally as Neoga's Luke Keller scored all eight points on two three-pointers and two of two at the line.

But Casey-Westfield went on a scoring binge in the third period with a 24-7 run. Maulding hit three trifectas for nine for Casey-Westfield while Parcel added six.

Carter Young scored four in the quarter for Neoga while Gavin Ray added the other three.

Although Neoga played Casey-Westfield even in the final quarter, that third period run sealed the deal for Casey-Westfield by a 60-29 tally.

The Warriors had only one player in double figures. Parcel led the way with seven field goals and four of six at the line for 19 but there were nine other players scoring.

Neoga was led by Keller with seven field goals, three from beyond the arc, and three of five at the line for 20.

In the second game, Tuscola was a 54-33 winner over Martinsville.

Tuscola and Casey-Westfield will meet Friday for the regional championship at 6 p.m. The winner advances to the Red Hill (Bridgeport) Sectional to meet the winner of the South Central Regional, either Dieterich of North Clay.
