Lady Shoes Capture Palestine Regional Crown

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes captured the championship of the Palestine Class 2A Regional Friday night, defeating the Newton Lady Eagles 64-56. The contest was heard on KJ Country 102.3.

Newton broke out to an 11-2 lead before T-Town gained its footing and ended up surging back to a 15-13 lead at the end of the first period. T-Town led 33-27 at halftime and were up 46-39 after three quarters before outscoring Newton 18-17 in the final period. The Shoes led by as many as 16 points in the contest.

Teutopolis made 20 of 42 shots, 48%, including 8 of 16 threes. The Lady Shoes hit 80% of their foul shots, 16 of 20. 

Newton hit 46% from the field, 21 of 46, including 7 of 12 threes. The Lady Eagles made 7 of 8 free throws.

Chloe Probst led Teutopolis with 19 points while Anna Probst added 15 points. Also for the Lady Shoes: Mollie Ruholl 9, Malea Helmink 8, Kelsey Niemerg 7 and Jersey Gaddis 6.

Newton's Karasyn Martin led all scorers with 27 points. Also for the Lady Eagles: Camryn Martin 11, Izzy Meinhart 9, Claire Probst 4, Addy O'Dell 3 and Grace Schumacher 2.

Laurie Thompson's Teutopolis team improved to 25-8 on the season and will take on Paris Tuesday night in the second game of the night at the Paris 2A Sectional. 

Brad Harris' Newton crew finished the season with a 21-8 record.
