Altamont, Neoga, Dieterich Win In Boys H.S. Basketball, EHS Loses

STRASBURG -- Altamont took the opening quarter lead on Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg and went on for a 67-53 victory as the two National Trail Confrence teams met in boys basketball action Thursday evening.

The Hatchets pulled within 32-29 at halftime but Altamont had a 17-13 third quarter and finished strong.

Kade Milleville got the Indians going in the right direction with seven opening quarter points on two regular field goals and a three-pointer.

Jackson Gurgel scored six of his team's 10 points for Windsor/Stew-Stras.

The Hatchets came back with a 19-18 second period as Seth Rincker scored eight points and Gurgel added on six more. Blayzz Verdeyen knocked in a three-pointer.

But Altamont came back in the third quarter with a 17-13 run as Ben Roedl put in six points and Milleville and Parker Bell hit a three-pointer each.

The Indians finished out with an 18-11 final period as Cooper McManaway took over the scoring duties with three baskets and three of four at the line for nine. Roedl added on five more.

Milleville finished with 20 points to lead the Indians. He hit eight field goals, two from beyond the arc, and two of two at the line. McManaway added 19 and Roedl tallied 13.

Windsor/Stew-Stras was led by Gurgel with 22 points on nine field goals, one a three-pointer and three of three at the line. Rylan Rincker added 10. The Hatchets are 3-4 in the NTC and 16-13 overall.

Altamont also claimed the junior varsity contest, 58-33.

At Kansas

Neoga moved into a 32-23 halftime lead and went on for a 59-44 victory against Tr-County in a non-conference matchup Thursday evening.

Tri-County held a 14-11 opening quarter lead. but Neoga came back with a 21-9 second period run. Luke Keller scored on three baskets for six points.

Neoga then had a 17-12 third quarter to lead 49-35. Keller scored five more points.

Gavin Ray finished with eight field goals and one of four at the line to lead Neoga with 17 points while Keller tallied 16 and Landon Titus 12.

Neoga was a 53-48 winner in the junior varsity contest. Kaden Bryant scored 19 and Grady Haarman 18.

At Dieterich

Dieterich ran out to a 15-8 opening quarter lead and led 36-26 at halftime against Grayville Thursday evening.

The Maroons' Tanner Will hit two three-pointers in the opening quarter while Jay Desai added a three-pointer.

Dieterich had a 21-18 second period to lead by 10 at halftime. Lucas Westendorf contributed two baskets and a free throw while Bryce Bohnhoff scored on two baskets, one a three-pointer for five each while Landen Keck put in three from beyond the arc to lead with nine.

Westendorf came back in the third quarter with four baskets, one a three-pointer, for nine points. Will scored five, with one a three-pointer while Keck added a three-pointer and a free throw and Jaxon Funneman scored on a three-pointer.

Three players ended in double figures for the Maroons. Keck led the way with 17 points on six field goals, four from three-point range, and one of two at the line. Westendorf added 16 and Will finished with 11.

At Mount Zion

Mount Zion put the game away in the opening quarter with a 21-5 run as Sammy Driscoll and Lyncoln Koester scored seven points each and the Braves finished with a 55-24 win over Effingham Thursday evening.

The lead stood at 33-10 at halftime. Effingham's KJ Kellam scored four second quarter points.

The Braves had an 18-4 third quarter to lead 51-14.

Driscoll finished with 14 to lead the Braves while Jacob Harvey, Koester and Andrew Tay scored 11 each.

Effingham was led by Kellams with six points on three baskets and Jake Niebrugge with five.
