Teutopolis, Newton Win, To Square Off For Regional Girls Basketball Crown

The Wooden Shoes won over Cumberland, 50-37. T-town edged out to a 15-11 opening quarter lead as Anna Probst scored six points and Chloe Probst tallied five.

Jude Miller went on an eight-point second quarter run as Cumberland put together a 15-11 lead to tie the score at 26-26 at halftime. Suzy Fritts scored five points on a regular basket and a three-pointer and Jade Carr added a three--pointer.

But the Shoes came back after halftime with an 11-5 third quarter. C. Probst and Kelsey Niemerg put in four points each while A. Probst added three.

T-town finished strong with a 13-6 final quarter. Niemerg and Jersey Gaddis connected on a basket and two free throws for four each while Malea Helmink added three points on free throws.

C. Probst was the lone Wooden Shoe player to finish in double figures with 18 on eight baskets, two field goals from beyond the arc . A. Probst ended with nine and Niemerg with eight.

Helmink led the way in rebounds with 10 while C. Probst had six.

Cumberland was led by Carr with 13 on four field goals, three of those three-pointers, and two of two at the line. Fritts chipped in with 10.

In the second contest, Newton was a 51-33 winner over Robinson.

The Eagles held a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 27-18 at halftime. They came out with a 12-4 third quarter surge.

Karasyn Martin led the way with 22 points on eight field goals, four from three-point range, and two of two at the line. Camryn Martin added 12 points

Claire Probst led in rebounds with eight and assists with three. K. Martin had four steals. 

Newton improved to 21-7 on the season.

Teutopolis and Newton meet at 6 p.m. Friday for the regional championship and the right to advance to the Paris Sectional Tuesday, Feb. 25.
