Altamont Downs South Central In Girls H.S. Basketball

FARINA -- Altamont High School finished strong to take a 46-42 win over National Trail Conference opponent South Central in girls basketball competition Wednesday evening.

South Central and Altamont played to a 13-13 opening quarter tie. Kaitlyn Swift nailed three from beyond the arc for nine points for the Cougars while Lorelai Rose also hit a three-pointer.

Altamont was led by Kaylee Lurkins with two baskets for four points while Ella Nelson and Libby Reardon connected on a three-pointer each.

The Cougars moved ahead 22-20 at halftime. Swift again hit a three-pointer and was one of two at the line while Kyra Siwft put in a three-pointer.

But Altamont came back with a slight 15-14 third quarter edge to move within 36-35 going into the final period. Lurkins put in a basket and four free throws while Nelson connected on another three-pointer and Reagan Kuenstler also had a three.

South Central remained ahead with seven points from Ka. Smith and a three from Percilla Reid. Kennah Hiestand put in a basket and two free throws for four.

Altamont continued on with an 11-6 final quarter to pull out the four-point win. Lurkins and Kylie Osteen put in a basket and a free throw each while Sophia Pearcy hit her first basket of the contest with a three.

Lurkins finished with 15 points to lead Altamont. She hit four baskets and was seven of 13 at the line. Nelson added nine.

South Central was led by Kaitlyn Swift with 22 points on eight field goals, five of those from beyond the arc, and one of two at the line. Reid finished with seven.
