SIGEL -- Altamont and St. Elmo/Brownstown were winners in the National Trail Conference Seventh-Grade Boys Basketball Tournament Monday evening.

Altamont claimed a 55-37 victory over North Clay (Louisville) in consolation bracket action.

In the other consolation bracket contest, St. Elmo/Brownstown edged Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 43-39. CHBC held a 13-6 opening quarter lead and led 23-17 at halftime.

CHBC still led 33-25 going into the final quarter when SEB came back with an 18-6 run to pull out the victory.

Schaub led SEB with 13 points while S. Wilhour added 12 and Schnarre 11.

CHBC was led by Kole Schaefer with 11 and Drake Thull with nine.

Altamont and St.Elmo/Brownstown advance to the consolation championship Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Tonight's games feature Sacred Heart against South Central at 6 followed by Stewardson-Strasburg taking on Sigel St. Michael at 7:15 in winner bracket play. The winners will advance to the championship game Thursday at 8 p.m. while the losers will play for third place at 6:45 p.m.

At Flora

Effingham St. Anthony was a winner over Flora in both seventh- and eighth-grade action Monday evening.

St. Anthony won the seventh-grade contest, 45-20. Flora held an 8-2 opening quarter lead and led 12-9 at halftime.

But the Bullpups came back with a 19-6 third quarter run and finished with a 17-2 fourth quarter.

R. Schumacher and P. Phillips scored 15 points each for the Bullpups.

In eighth-grade play, St. Anthony claimed a 47-40 victory. The Bullpups edged out to a 15-13 opening quarter lead and led 22-21 at halftime. Flora had a 11-7 third quarter to pull ahead 32-29 but the Bullpups' B. Verdeyen went on a 16 point run and they pulled out the victory.

Verdeyen hit 11 field goals, one from three-point range, and was seven of nine at the line for 30 points.

At Marshall

Effingham and Marshall split victories in Tuesday evening action.

Effingham was a winner in the seventh-grade contest, 50-41.

The Mustangs held a 15-9 opening quarter lead and led 26-15 at halftime. Marshall made a comeback in the second half with a 26-24 second half but it wasn't enough.

Deek Thompson scored 19 and Justus Bridges 13 for Effingham.

In eighth-grade action, Marshall edged the Mustangs, 48-46.

Effingham held a 22-21 halftime lead and led 34-33 going into the final quarter. But Marshall came back with a 16-12 run to pull out the victory.

Joel Flack led Effingham wth 17 points while Dagg Thompson added 12.

At Mattoon

Teutopolis handed Mattoon losses in both seventh- and eighth-grade play Monday evening.

T-town was a 33-20 winner in the seventh-grade contest, taking a 19-7 opening half lead and finishing with a 12-8 final quarter.

Mason Giles led the way in scoring with nine points.

In the eighth-grade contest, T-town took a 16-8 halftime lead and had a 23-12 second half for a 39-20 victory.

S. Probst scored 15 for the Shoes while B. Niemerg added eight.

At Bridgeport

Jasper County captured the eighth-grade game but fell in seventh-grade action Monday evening to Red Hill (Bridgeport).

In the seventh-grade contest, Red Hill edged Jasper County, 27-26.

The score was tied at 11-11 at halftime. Jasper County moved ahead 22-18 in the third quarter.

Red Hill came back with a 9-4 run to claim the win.

Jasper County was led by Jacob Guzman with six points. Maverik Horner was top rebounder, Guzman top defender and Alex Keller and Grant Frichtl top passers.

In eighth-grade play, Jasper County was a 53-38 winner. Jasper County ran out to a 30-16 first half lead.

Cambell Ulm and Brendan Emmerich scored 15 each for the winners while Chase Kistner added 14.

Hank Huber was the top rebounder. Emmerich and Kistner were the top defenders and Kistner was the top passer.

Jasper Coumty is 3-8 in seventh-grade and 6-5 in eighth-grade.
