Area Girls, Boys Teams Appear In State Basketball Polls

Five area girls high school basketball teams are ranked in the State Basketball Poll this week.

Effingham is tied for first place in the Class 3A State Poll with 39 points. The Hearts are 6-0 on the season while Washington, the team they are tied with, stands at 7-0.

In Class 2A, Teutopolis stands in third place with a 4-1 record and 37 points while Newton is fifth with a 4-1 record and 24 points.

Effingham St. Anthony is ranked No. 2 in the Class 1A poll with a 6-1 record and 52 points. Brownstown/St. Elmo is ranked ninth with a 6-2 record and 18 points. Brownstown was listed just as Brownstown in ninth place and St. Elmo was listed in the other teams receiving votes instead of together.

In the boys basketball poll, Effingham St. Anthony is ranked eighth in Class 1A with a 3-2 record and 25 points.

Teutopolis is listed in the others recieving votes in Class 2A.
