The Stewardson-Strasburg Board of Education hired Shane Smith as varsity boy's basketball coach of the Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets at a special meeting on Monday night.

Bob Lockart had been serving as coach, but resigned to become an assistant to Marty Simmons with the men's basketball program at Eastern Illinois University.

Smith coached the Hatchets during the first week of the season and the team is off to a 3-1 start. Smith's hiring was as Interim Varsity Boy's Basketball Coach for the remainder of the season.

In addition to accepting Lockart's resignation, the Board hired Mitchell Martin as Interim JV Boy's Basketball Coach, also for the remainder of the season.

While the Windsor and Stew-Stras school districts co-op in sports, each district hires coaches for certain sports, and Stew-Stras is in charge of hiring for boy's basketball.
