CHARLESTON – Eastern Illinois director of athletics Barbara Burke has announced Lee Buchanan has resigned his position as the Panther women’s basketball head coach.

“I want to thank Coach Buchanan for his six years of service to the women’s basketball program here at Eastern Illinois, including serving as the head coach this past season,” said Burke.  “I wish the Buchanan family all the best in their future endeavors.”

Buchanan served six years on the Panthers staff with five as an assistant under former head coach Brady Sallee and the last year as the head coach guiding EIU to a 20-12 record that included an OVC regular season co-championship and WNIT appearance.

“I want to thank the university for the opportunity to lead this program,” said Buchanan.  “At this time I have decided to leave EIU to pursue other professional opportunities and spend more time with my family.”

A national search for Buchanan’s replacement will begin immediately.
